Why this?

The occasional piece of my own and a generous helping of others' creations I find inspiring. Site is named for a beloved book by one of my favorite writers, Italo Calvino, whose fanciful work lights--and delights--my soul.

Aperture

We can’t, midstride,
look for long to the side.
Fear of smacking metal or
other foreheads or tripping over
ground cover prevents us
from training eyes anywhere
but down and forward.

Whatever we’re missing,
it’s not seen from moving vehicles,
when we may look long
from passenger seats
but it’s largely blur.

Things were different before
reverse fission, aging's
consolidating. When
we tickled briefly across
beaches, full spectrum seers
who thickened and forgot.
